About Us
Dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich heritage of Clowne and surrounding areas

Our Story
Our society began with a simple idea: local history matters most when it is shared. Since 2003 we have worked to collect memories, photographs and records that help tell the story of Clowne and the people who have lived and worked here.
Whether you are new to local history or have been researching for years, you will find a friendly group, practical help and plenty of interesting discoveries along the way.
What We Do
Talks and meetings
Regular talks and social evenings that explore Clowne’s past and the wider area.
Projects and research
Ongoing research into local people, places and events, with findings shared on our website.
Publications and calendar
Our annual “Then and Now” calendar celebrates Clowne through photographs past and present.
Community links
We work with local venues, businesses and supporters who help us share Clowne’s history more widely.
Where We Meet
Meetings are held at 7pm on the last Tuesday of each month at Clowne Community Centre. New members are always welcome, whether you want to listen, learn, share memories, or get involved with research.

Calendar
Each year we produce an annual calendar featuring “Then and Now” photographs of the village. It is one of our favourite ways to share Clowne’s history, and it helps support the society’s work.
Thank you to everyone who supported our 2025 calendar. We had 500 copies printed, and they were sold out by the first week in January.
We have already started collecting images for the 2026 calendar, and we look forward to publishing it towards October.
With special thanks to our stockists:
